ALIVE FESTIVAL

DOING. BEING. ACTING. DANCING. The Alive Festival of Open Studios occur each spring quarter when the UW Bothell campus comes alive with performances and socially engaged art projects. During the final two weeks of the spring quarter, classes open their doors to audiences across campus to show original student performances, research projects and works-in-process. Performances are produced across various IAS courses and happen in classrooms, studios, screening rooms and campus “public” spaces. Collaborating faculty arrange for other classes to attend their “Open Studio” event and give incentives for students to attend each other’s performances. Past Open Studio Weeks have included poetry and staged readings, video installations, interactive media and film projects, improvisational performances, dance choreography and more. The Alive Festival has contributed to enriching and activating campus, growing a culture of participatory art-making and linking a variety of course offerings that engage the interdisciplinary skills and languages of performance.
